What Chicago Homeowners Are Saying About Us
Punch List is rated 5 /5 based on these 119 happy customer reviews
Punch List did an excellent job of installing crown molding and painting several rooms. The communication was excellent, all of the people with whom I spoke were friendly and polite, and the work was done in a timely manner. Andres L. did an exceptional job of painting and installing closet shelving. He went above and beyond what was expected. I have more work scheduled. Thanks Punch List.
I was referred to Punch List by a friend and cannot express how happy I am with the services. David Kazmer, the handyman who came and completed the requests was amazing! He was punctual, efficient and took the time to explain everything he was doing and made recommendations as to how it can be done better. Thanks a ton David you made moving much bearable.
We CANNOT stress enough how amazing Jim from Punch List is. The day before a big move, we realized that we had completely forgotten to secure a handy man to put together some furniture and mount a television. Fortunately, we found Punch List through Yelp (because of their great reviews). In under 24 hours, Jim was available. Not only was he punctual, but even a few minutes early. He is incredibly friendly and hand working. Within two hours he had assembled, a headboard, an entire sectional couch, and a large television! He did such an excellent job that a few days later, I called Punch List again to have Jim mount another television. His wife took my call and was very, very helpful and so nice. Jim came over the next day to mount the television and made the wires go through the wall so that they are invisible. After a complicated move, it was so nice to not have to feel stressed about a handy man. We love Punch List and will be using them for a long time!
I found Jim through yelp and called him based on previous reviews. He called me back right away and was great. We needed a kitchen drawer repaired which required replacing the track. Before our appointment he asked me to send a picture of the damaged track so he could bring a replacement with him. He could have easily not brought the part with him and then charged me for the time it would have taken him to go to the store but he didn't. He did a great job at at the repair, he is really nice, honest and on time! Would highly recommend!
We had a great experience with Jim and Dan from Punch List. Even with a set back (there was a broken piece on our fan so they had to come twice) they worked hard to make sure that the job was done quickly and correctly. They were professional and friendly and are people we will definitely use again. It really is so hard to find a good handyman and we are very happy that we no longer have to look for one! We will be using Punch List for all of our future projects and will be recommending them to everyone we know!
I used Punch List for the 1st time yesterday on a lighting project and was very happy with the results. They were on time, professional, well priced, and they did a great job. I will definitely call them the next time I need something and would not hesitate to recommend to others.
Jim and his crew are excellent. The one service I've found in Chicago that calls back promptly and actually shows up on time. I'm a condo owner and recently transitioned to a landlord with tenants. I've had the Punch List team do jobs when I lived there and now as a landlord. All of them have turned out great and are really easy to schedule their services either online or with a quick call. The cost may be a little higher than some random fix it person, but knowing that they will call you back and show up on time is well worth it. And they do great work.
We found Jim through EveryBlock. Someone else had requested handyman recommendations and I liked the look of his site; seemed very professional. He offered to come over and quote us on the 8yr old list of hunny-do's I had. It was really petty things that we were unable to fix, but it had added up. We also needed a new utility door which he researched the Chicago coding about ventilation and installed a great solve for quelling our noise problem there....the quote was reasonable, the work was done close to the accounted time, he even did a follow-up when I believed one of our to-do's still needed attention. When his guy Brian was here working, he even did the quiet work while my son was napping: super conscientious. I would recommend them to anyone and will have them back to do bigger improvement projects now that we have gotten all the little nuisance things fixed.
Wow! I could not be happier with my choice in handy man. Punch List was so easy to work with, from start to finish, their service is top notch. I called Jim and received a return call less than 24hrs later. He worked around my schedule and was fair in estimates/pricing. The morning of, Brian arrived promptly at 9:00a.m. and got right to work. He was courteous, professional and really knew his stuff. He gave great advice when I asked for it and was very pleasant to be around. The end result was fabulous! Brian did an amazing job. As long as I live in Chicago, I won't use anyone else. Thank you Jim and Brian!
Brian at Punch List did an AMAZING job re-caulking my bathtub!!! He even fixed my cabinet door that's been broken for months in a few seconds when he saw it lying on the floor! I would definitely call him again!
Brian from punch list did a wonderful job on improvements to my condo. He was flexible and efficient and very professional. Thank you, punch list!
I booked Punch List to tackle a long list of projects at my new house. Brian showed up on time and ready to work. He was very knowledgeable and skilled - willing to take on everything I asked him to do. He was so helpful that I added several things to the list while he was there. He knocked them all out and was friendly throughout the process. I'd use Punch List again.
This group came highly recommended to me. I had a huge punch list that my developer did not finish upon turning our condo over. I never got around to completing the tasks as either I didn't have the time or expertise. I gave Jim (owner I believe) a call short notice and got me an appt next business day. Carlos came out early bc of cancelations (amazing) replaced my insanely complex new kitchen faucet, fixed my gas fireplace and a ton of little items in about 2 hours. (Would have taken the DH and I days and stress). He was amazingly patient answered all my questions and gave me helpful advice of things I could do my own or recommendations . I am a female and never felt like I asked a dumb question or treated poorly. Which for me is amazing as I get that a ton elsewhere (eg your a girl this is too complex for you to understand). I had a lot of fun learning about household fixing stuff. I cannot waiting to get everything I ordered in to have him back out again. I totally recommend him and this group. My dogs even liked him!
Jim was on time and got my "punch list" done quicker than anticipated. Totally worth it!!!
Punch List is perfect for all our needs! I would highly recommend Jim and his crew for any job around the house - big or small. Punch List came out to my house 2 days in a row to complete my "punch list" and did a fantastic job with every single item. More importantly, Jim and Chris arrived on time and prepared both days!
I have used Punch List twice, and have been more than pleased with them both times. The first time I called to have a broken light switch fixed -- I got out my calendar and prepared to have to make an appointment for a date a week or two out. Instead, they had an electrician at my apartment in less than an hour! Crazy! I wish my landlord was this responsive! The second time, we had an intermittent mystery water leak coming through our bathroom ceiling. It was not on the landlord's priority list. Ugh. Thank goodness for tenant friendly "repair and deduct" laws and Punch List! After the leak got worse, I finally called Punch List and Jim came out. Of course, by that time the mystery leak had stopped again and we couldn't track it down. The next time it started he came out right away -- at 6:00 am! He found the source of the leak, 2 floors up, and fixed it right up! (Turns out it was the hot/cold water mixture valve on the 3rd floor shower, and was only leaking in certain positions).Anyway -- routine work or early morning emergencies, I am glad we found Punch List!
Jim was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, professional...and he did good work. What more can you ask for?We had a leaky skylight...I contacted 4 or 5 handymen I found on Yelp for estimates...including Jim @ Punch list.To their credit...all of the people I contacted responded promptly...but, w/ the exception of Jim...they only responded to say they don't so skylights!?Jim was the only one willing to come take a look at the light and advise me before simply saying no. (OK...one other person did offer to come take a look, but only if I paid for 2 hours of labor!).Jim looked over the issue (which is a task in and of itself due to the light's location), advised me on both long and short term solutions, carried out the short term solution...AND proactively addressed the same issue on a second sky light...in less than an hour.Again, what more can you ask for? I would (and will) hire Jim and Punch List for other projects.
Punch List was unbelievable doing numerous things in my condo. The technician, Brian, was extremely polite, knowledgable and walked me through everything he was going to do and did. I cannot recommend him enough. Punch List was very responsive when I first reached out, too, which was appreciated. I will not hesitate to use them again and have been recommending them to everyone.
Frank from Punch list arrived at my house so quick me beat me home. A good guy with a good price. I'll be calling them back, I'm very satisfied!
Frank did a great job and even went to Menards to get a part I broke.
Our home has taken a beating from our two small children and as a result we were in desperate need of some handyman work in our place. We had Jim from Punch List out at our home to help fix several items this past week. First, Jim fixed our broken toilet handle courtesy of our "hopefully soon to be potty trained daughter." Secondly, Jim patched up two holes in our living room wall from our safety gate and also re-installed it in a more appropriate place. Finally, Jim installed shelving in our garage so we can hang up the various strollers, bikes and toys that we have collected over the past few years. With all the snow the past week, we are thrilled to get our garage back! Everything was done perfectly and we will definitely be contacting Punch List again for future needs.
Brian just fixed/installed an new garbage disposal and I have nothing but great things to say about him and his professionalism!! I highly recommend Punch List for any household jobs. This is our second time using them and I will continue to not only use them, but continue to sing their praises!!!
Jim, the company owner, is wonderful. Friendly, excellent at the work, and very flexible with his schedule. He is also very organized, does a great job with getting all the details right, and charges a very, very reasonable rate. He is experienced and knowledgable. I don't really know what else one could ask for.
I will keep this review short and simple. Jim and Gus (both of whom were incredibly polite and professional) came out to fix a lighting issue in my kitchen and it took them about 40 minutes - not long at all - to do so. After they were finished, they asked if there was anything else they could do b/c I had 20 mins remaining in the hour I paid for. Naturally, I answered, "yes" and had them install a new light fixture in the hallway and put up a hanging cupboard over the kitchen sink. Absolutely phenomenal service.I will undoubtedly use Punch List in the future for any handyman need I may encounter in the future and I suggest you do the same if you're reading this post!
Quite possibly the best service on the planet. We were selling a multi unit house and the inspector BROKE a faucet such that it would not turn off. We called PL in a panic and they dispatched a handyman within the span of 1 hour and SAVED THE DAY. They let us know up front what the fee would be... very reasonable btw, and fixed it tout suite. I'll never call anyone else again. CALL THEM!
My wife and I had a list of minor projects that we needed a handyman to fix. The handyman was right on time, he was respectful with our carpet and floors (wore shoe protectors and put protective padding down under the ladder), he worked quickly and answered all of our questions. We will be using Punch List again for all of our handyman needs.
Punch List is fantastic - they always exceed expectations, and charge way less than I think they could (and probably should) for their fantastic work. We have had Jim fix both a broken pipe and broken track lighting, and the service both times was wonderful. Everyone should use Punch List - for big or small fix-it issues - they are great.
Fergus is one the most-capable handymen (and talented craftsmen) with whom I have ever worked.
Being fairly handy, I needed some professional work done at my home, called punchlist. However, I got lucky and took care of it myself. Punchlist was so nice on the phone and helpful with my original problem that I set up another appointment when I had some other issues pop up. It was a real headache of a problem that I had made worse, but Brian took care of it and it was extremely affordable.
Mark came out and did some general handyman/electrical work on an investment property. Since I don't live there, I very much appreciated his prompt (actually early) arrival and the quick manner in which he went about his business. He was respectful to the tenants and was very willing to help. Will use again
Brian from Punch List was great, really professional! Yes Punch List is pricey, but it is totally worth the quality service! Will definitely call them again for projects!
Now, I'm a fairly handy gal. But after a 3 and half day cross-country move, there was only so much handiness I could muster before I eventually ran out of gas. Enter the super-handy gentlemen of Punch List.I submitted an inquiry on their website and Jim called me to set up an appointment the next morning. He was very professional, friendly and straightforward, not at all like a used car salesman, and assured me they'd be able to help me with stay within my limited budget. Great first impression!Dan came out on schedule the next day and was an absolute hero! We chatted up a storm (great guy) while he caulked around my windows and baseboards, and he paid such great attention to detail while installing a set of wall-to-wall mirrors for me once the caulking was done. After he was done, he did a walk through with me just to make sure everything was done up to my standard. I honestly couldn't have been more satisfied.I highly recommend the handymen of Punch List for anything that needs fixing up around your home. I will definitely be using their services in the future!
Jim was very helpful and friendly, fixed my garbage disposal without any trouble! I would definitely recommend Punch List for any odd job you need completed around the house!
Jim from Punch List was great - on time, friendly, and knowledgeable! He didn't charge us extra for going a little over the time slot or for getting some materials for us at Home Depot and coming back to do a few touchups. I got estimates from a few other companies on Yelp that got good reviews, but Punch List was price competitive on the hourly rate and took an hour less than the other guys said they would take to do the same work. He even gave us advice on a few things we could do ourselves even if we decided not to have him do it (e.g. some painting, cleaning the windows).Definitely recommend!
We had a fantastic experience with Punch list today! We had a "situation" with our basement bathroom. In short, we wanted to have a toilet replaced in our basement with a special valve to prevent "Vermin" from entering our house. Scheduling was a snap and Fergus was here a few minutes early to begin work right on time! He was speedy and made it look easy. Quality of work is to the highest standard with Punch List!I would not hesitate to call Punch List for any need.
We had a leak from one bathroom to another. Found it on a Tuesday night. Called it in on Wednesday, and they were out here on Thursday. Danny was great! He shared his diagnosis and methods as he found and fixed the problem. After he left, I felt like I could fix the next one myself. The rate was reasonable and the outcome was exactly what I was looking for. I would highly recommend then in the future.
I had seen the Punch List van and needed 2 AC's ihstalled. Spoke to Jim who was very professional and helpful. John was the person who installed my AC's. Showed up with tools and a bucket full of tape, etc. He did a thorough job installing them, one is a portable which can be difficult to put together with all its flimsy plastic pieces but he did a great job. This is a first rate professional company, even spoke to Jim's wife who gave me great customer service. I would definitely use them again.
After a while spent searching for the perfect handyman, I've found him.Other companies wanted to charge me to buy their tools (not the SUPPLIES, which is totally reasonable, but the tools...). If I wanted to buy a fancy drill bit, I would. I don't, though.Jim will get all my future handyman business. Here is why: - Already owns tools... like you'd think a handyman would, no? - Prompt responses on phone and email. - Clear, straightforward pricing (beware the "$X an hour + $Y for the van to come to your place + $... schemes where smaller numbers quickly add up). - On time. - Friendly! - Didn't mind that my cat is a nosy so-and-so and was all up in his business until I locked him away in the bathroom (the cat, not Jim). - Work done well and in the projected time allotment.... and, you guys, he sent me a thank you card. Like, "thanks for letting me come out and fix that drain you effed up!" but much nicer.
I was so pleased with the work from Punch List. I had electrician's pull wiring from an outlet in my living room and mount my 50-inch tv. They put the electric box up way too high and I called Punch List to have them move the box down, patch and repaint, and mount the tv. He did a wonderful job and I am do happy. It was expensive for me because it took five hours. . .but the electrician was working the entire time so I know he wasn't dragging out the time. I will definitely use them again.
We had a window that needed new caulking around it and some minor drywall repair to be completed in the bathroom. After seeing all the amazing reviews about punch list, I knew who I was going to call to repair them. Punchlist was able to quickly give me a quote for the work over the phone and set up an appt. for three days later. They called the day before to confirm and the worker (ryan I think) showed up right on time and ready to complete the job. He was friendly and did an excellent job repairing both the wall and window and left the additional supplies with us. We were very satisfied with the job he did. We will definitely be calling Punch List next time we need work completed in our home.
I've had them do two jobs -- one was to install a massive rainshower head in my bathroom, which required a bit of engineering on how to hook up the plumbing, and the other was to install windowsills (for some reason, my developer thought they weren't needed). Both projects went very well, the shower head is perfect, no leaks and looks great, and the windowsills also look great, just like the developer should have put in originally.I can highly recommend these folks for both carpentry and plumbing, and have no doubt they do just as well at any other job you can give them.
We're selling our condo and needed to have the caulk around our tub & shower fixed after an inspection found that it was in need of repair. I submitted a request for a quote on their website and received a call from them within minutes. Prices were straightforward and setting up an appointment was easy. Dan T. called 30 minutes before our scheduled appointment and was able to get here early. He was super-friendly and knowledgeable. The old caulk was removed and new caulk was applied in a timely fashion and it looks great. We couldn't be happier with the results and the price was reasonable. We'll definitely be contacting Punch List for projects in our new condo!
By far one of the easiest experiences I've had with any local company.I needed help finishing up the installation of a chandelier and preferred not to zap myself with electricity and burn my place down, so I called Punch List. They accommodated my schedule, showed up a little early (always awesome in my book), knocked out the job at hand AND asked if they could help with anything else.To top it off, I received a hand-written (YES, HAND WRITTEN) note thanking me for using their service. It doesn't get any better than this. Thanks, Punch List!
I requested a service online late last night and got a call early this morning. The woman helped me troubleshoot my electrical problem (okay, okay all I had to do was press the reset button on my outlet which I didn't know existed because...well, I was in the dark and too focused on flipping the circuit breaker). And voila! It worked.I was impressed. They could have just sent someone out and charged me $120 to push a button but instead they saved me time and money with a helpful suggestion over the phone. I didn't need them to come out this time, but they just earned a customer for life.
We found Jim through Yelp, and the reviews are spot on. He does a GREAT job. We had a massive clog in our shower that nothing was fixing. Finally decided to call for professional help. Jim came early the next day (called on an evening) and in 10 mins the shower was fixed. Since he charges by the hour, he asked if there was anything else we needed help with? Well, yes, thank you... We went down our "punch list" and he knocked each item off with ease, even making a trip to Home Depot for the necessary supplies. Outside of the impressive drain declogging, he managed to fix our cheap Ikea pantry door that had snapped off and fallen on me while I was holding our 6 month old daughter. We were ready to buy an entirely new pantry, but he cut new holes into the metal and was able to successfully reinstall the door. Securely. Good stuff. We will be calling him next time we need anything!
I recently used Punch List for the first time and was very happy with the appointment. Dan was wonderful! I would gladly call them again and recommend to friends.
I called Punch List to help install a vapor barrier and patch up some drywall. Jim was on time and gave an accurate and honest estimate for the work. Joe, the handyman who did the work, was also punctual, honest, and efficient. He gave meaningful recommendations that saved me money and time. I intend on using them again in the future.
Dan did a great job installing my light. Easy scheduling - did the job quickly. Very happy with service.
Yelp steered me in the right direction by pointing out this place. I've used them twice and they were excellent! First up, they sent Mark who did the electrical work. He was friendly and efficient and got the job done! Next up I had David who put together furniture, hung art, and did all sorts of miscellaneous things around the house. Both men were on time, efficient workers, and very pleasant! I highly recommend!
David at Punch List was great! He was on time, helpful, and knocked items off my list quickly and efficiently. He gave great advice on bigger projects that I am planning for the future.I would recommend him to anyone looking to get some things done around the house!
Punch List is wonderful! From the people who answer the phone and schedule appointments, to the great workers, to the owner himself; they are a joy. I've used them several times, and will continue to do so. Fergus is awesome! He has been to my house three times, and the quality and speed of his work is top-notch. Most recently, he repaired and replaced damaged flooring in my third floor unit's bathroom. Did a fantastic job! Highly recommend.
David was awesome. Came over and got right to work. Very pleased. Thanks Punch List.
Mark came out at 7am on a Wednesday. Installed my kitchen sink, and by 8:15am, I was on my way to work. Professional, courteous and easy to work with. No time missed at work. I will be using PunchList again!
Jim and his team were great- they did a great paint job and fixed a crack in our ceiling. They cleaned up afterwards, and there work was completed on time. We will continue to use Punch a List in the future.
They were great. Mark was awesome. I had this long list of little jobs. Everything was done fast and well and under estimate. I will definitely call them again.
My wife found Punch List on yelp and spoke with Jim to setup an estimate for a scope of work for drywalling our kitchen (we had removed old brickfacing and left our walls a mess) and replacing our countertops with butcher block counters and installing a new sink/faucet we had already purchased. She raved about how responsive, courteous and friendly he was in scheduling the free estimate. (I can personally attest to this when he came over further in my review).Fergus came over for the estimate and ultimately did all of the work. This guy is awesome! It was a four day job and he was on-time every day. He knows what he's doing and you can see it in the finished product. He is a really honest guy and has great craftsmanship. The drywall looks amazing. He had to get creative to go around cabinets and multiple arched frames and the work is flawless. The counters and farmhouse sink installation also took some creativity, but I told him our vision, and he executed it perfectly. It turned out exactly how we imagined it. It was really a custom installation that couldn't have been done any better. He had to redo the plumbing for our sink as well to accommodate the new sink and it looks and works great.Fergus not only did a great job, but it's the little things that tell me this is a guy that values his work. He set up his tools and supplies in our back room and at the end of the day he would clean up all the debris from the back room and our kitchen and move his stuff out of the way. He reinstalled the outlets/switches after installing the drywall which I was not even expecting.Jim showed up halfway through the project to see how everything was going and too see if I had any questions or issues. He even put on booties over his shoes when he came in. I could see how friendly and personable he was. If the rest of his staff is as good as Fergus, he's in good shape and we wish him continued success. We recommend using this company and will undoubtedly use them again ourselves. I know this review is long, but it is a testament of how great this company is from the people to the craftsmanship. Sometimes when hiring trades, you don't know what to expect, and what a relief to find Punchlist! Did I mention how great they are?
Anybody who needs some house work done in Chicago just needs to find Punch List on Yelp. The quality of craftsmanship and customer service is amazing. I needed quite a number of repairs done and so I was more comfortable with the hourly rate because I wouldn't have to worry about payment per job.A friend of mine living in the same locality recommended Punch List as Jim had worked in his house before and the results were great. I felt the need to write a review because of the fantastic job done on my AC and kitchen sink together with cabinets and drawers. Everything was fixed and fitted to perfection and Punch List definitely exceeded my expectations. This is an awesome company that offers A+ service at a reasonable rate that is hard to find. Kudos to Jim and His team including the wife who values customers and responds promptly!
I've used punch list twice for various projects in my new place. Everything from adding tile backsplash in my kitchen, installing chandeliers, a shower door, installing a new toilet, kitchen faucet and other smaller items. They have been on time, very professional, and reasonably priced. They have been knowledgable and able to tackle all of my projects. I would recommend them to everyone and would use them again. I'm so glad I discovered punch list thru yelp!
I just had Dan here, he was fantastic! He even helped me think of a few projects that are simple and will make my life so much easier! I highly recommend Punch List. Ask for Dan!!
Just used Punch List again...wow-these guys are first class all the way! Always arrive on time or actually early-pleasant, professional, and really know their stuff. If you ever need ANYTHING done around your house you would be crazy not to call PUNCH LIST!!!!!
Joe from Punch List repaired our basement ceiling when we had a leak from our dishwasher. He did a great job and was able to complete the job at half the price originally quoted. I would definitely use him again for future repairs!
These guys were amazingly good! On time, accurate, even drove to Home Depot with me to choose new lighting! Overall a great experience, much better than expected and I will call them again in a heartbeat! Thank you Ben and Javier!!
Dan came to my condo today to re-caulk my beast of a jacuzzi and shower combo as well as some crown moulding and another smaller shower. He was very clear with me about what he was doing to ensure that the end result looked nice. I am extremely happy with the work he did and will be calling again so I can get my shower re-grouted. He used my vacuum to ensure that the work areas were clean....can't even tell he was there. He was very friendly and would definitely recommend punch list to others.
I live in a very old house that had a very old dishwasher that was hooked up in a very strange way. So when it came time to replace that very old dishwasher we ended up needing plumbing and electrical work done in order to get a new one installed. Instead of having to pay for a plumber and electrician, Punch List sent one guy to do it all and he was fantastic! This place charges by the time it takes and our technician rounded down on that time, was incredibly friendly and efficient, and did a great job! Furthermore, they come at a scheduled time (not 2 hour windows), and the staff that schedules appointments is the friendliest I've ever dealt with! I will definitely call them back the next time we need any work of this sort done.
I appreciate a handyman service as much for what they don't do as much as what they fix. We had a leak coming through our bathroom ceiling from an upstairs unit. I had already cut out the wet drywall and our upstairs unit had a plumber out to fix their toilet, but I still called punch list to be sure we didn't have any other sources of the leak. Mark was 5 min. early for an early morning appointment, friendly, and professional. I don't know the first thing about plumbing so he could have told me just about anything as far as what needed to be fixed and I would have bought it, but he inspected the area and told me that the upstairs fix appeared to have rectified the problem and that we probably didn't need him to do anything else. It was a very reasonable call-out fee and I'll call them again if we have another issue.
After I posted my review, Jim called and we sorted it out. Apparently my request for service never went through. He couldn't have been nicer, came to my house a few days later and gave me a very reasonable estimate on several projects we'd like to have done. It's really nice to see a small business owner so vested in his company and it's reputation. I'm upgrading these guys to 5 stars! Thanks for personally reaching out Jim!!
Called Punch List to install new deadbolts and door handles on my front and back door, and after about a 3 minute phone call I had an appointment set for first thing the next morning. Dan came to my house and was prompt, friendly, and happy to explain everything he was doing. When we thought we wanted to also have a door sweep installed, he told us what the actual problem was with our door not sealing, and he fixed that too. (And now I get to return the door sweep to Home Depot.) I would definitely use Dan/Punch List again for my home repairs.
I recently moved into a new condo and the place had a few things that needed fixing. Punch List was extremely responsive and accommodated my busy work schedule. They sent Mike and Brian to help fix an electrical problem and a few other odd jobs that needed to be done.Mike did a great job troubleshooting my electrical problem. It turns out the previous condo owners had done some shady electrical work, but Mike provided a creative fix that solved the problem safely and conveniently.Brian was great about fixing all sorts of random problems I had from broken drawers on a built-in dresser to a gap between my kitchen counter and the sink to a toilet that leaked.Perhaps most impressive, was how Punch List dealt with a follow-up request I had. After Brian and Mike left, I noticed that my kitchen sink was leaking. This did not happen before, so I thought that perhaps something was bumped when Brian was fixing the sink gap. I reached out to Punch List and they sent Brian out again the next day free of charge! All in all, everything I asked for was completed quickly and professionally, Mike and Brian were top notch guys, and I really appreciated the free follow-up work. I would definitely call on these guys again!
Nick was excellent! He was prompt, fast, skilled, pleasant to work with, and very knowledgable on all the issues we had. He installed lights in our hallway entry and we will definitely be asking for his services in the future! We have had other handymen at our condo that either were overpriced or inexperienced. Highly recommend Punch List!
Mark was great! He was on time, friendly and did a great job. Prices were very reasonable, I couldn't ask for more! Thanks so much, Punch List! Would recommend to friends and use the service again.
Not the first time I've used Punch LIst and won't be the last. Great job. Very prompt and tidy! Got all my list done quickly and expertly. Thanks Joe!!!
This review is a month over due but anyways...Joe and Jim were great. I needed some framing done and it was done to my specifications. They offered a quote on a restoration due to some flooding. It was a little high but they offered any help they could in the future. Good work fellas! They were on time on 3 visits...in Chicago that's a rarity!!
I have called on Punch List several times for different home projects. The first time one of their guys came out to install my flat screen television on the wall, build my entertainment center, and mount/ hook up the surround sound speakers in my living room. The job went extremely well. Showed up on time, got the work done in a reasonable amount of time, and left the place cleaner than when he arrived. After that great experience I called Punch List for a second visit, to install the backsplash in my kitchen. Different guy, same strong work ethic. The tile looks amazing. He also gave me good tips as I wasn't sure what type of grout to buy and where to get the best deal.Punch List also came out a third time, to put in a new faucet and fix my toilet. Same great service! Would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a handyman!
DAN was WONDERFUL!!!! I found Punch List on Yelp and despite the high ratings, wasn't sure who would show up at my door or how good the quality of work would be. Well, Dan deserves 5 stars and more! He was friendly, fast, and did a great job at all of the different tasks I had for him. He even did a couple extra things that I hadn't asked for originally. He was professional, super helpful, and I will definitely be calling back for Dan again!!!! Thank you!!! -Courtney
I've never used a handyman service (too busy, no skills and a tad bit lazy) so carefully did some research on my options, thankfully arriving at Punch List. It was easy to schedule the visit (along with a great reminder email the day before) via their internet site and I promptly recieved a call back to walk me through their pricing and coordinate the appointment.Dan contacted me prior to the 8 AM appt to ensure I was aware of a potential traffic delay, which I greatly appreciated. I had a small list of "please do now" and a few things I wanted to spec out and ensure they could do it. He also pointed out a few things I didn't have on my list but were in need of attention.Everything was completed as I had asked with attention to detail and keeping a clean space. Dan was chatty and I liked the exchange - definitely someone I feel I can build a handyman relationship with and stop waiting to fix things!
I called them after reading some of the reviews here. I told them about the work we needed done. Some electrical work; porch light needed to be repaired and we needed two closet lights replaced. The guy I spoke with explained their policies and pricing and we scheduled the work for the following week. The day arrived and the guy arrived about 20 minutes early, could have been a problem, but wasn't. He also brought his cousin, so the work was done in well under an hour. Not too exciting a review, I know, but when things go well, it shouldn't be. I will use them again. Oh, and the rate was quite reasonable, $129.
Amazing service! I had Punch List come out to fix the electrical outlets in my kitchen, and when they stopped working again (due to my mistake!), they came out again for free. Super friendly and really nice and accommodating. I will definitely be using Punch List in the future.
Rick was great. He replaced my disposal very quickly and fixed one of my pipes. They were very quick to get back to me during my initial booking too. I will definitely be using them again.
Punch List is fantastic! Their schedule process is easy, they're extremely responsive and provide an email confirmation/reminder. Chris was outstanding, working efficiently and making adjustments as needed that were all explained clearly. He also was upfront about a weather-proofing repair he thought would be most effectively done by a window company. This kind of transparency and communication is so helpful. We've already scheduled another appointment with him. Highly recommended!!
Excellent customer service! They were able to schedule me within the week within my time constraints. Joe came ahead of schedule, did a quick walk thru and started right away. He was very efficient with everything we needed done, answered all my questions and, most importantly, got done within the time he quoted! We just moved into a new place and now it feels like home.
Second time I've used Punch List and they are batting 1000!Johnny repaired a sink in my rental that had likely been clogged for years. Keep up the great work Punch List!
My husband and I were very happy with the services that Punch List provided. The door frame at our front door entrance was coming loose (pretty scary for security purposes) and my husband contacted quite a few places, but Punch List was the only place that responded promptly and said they could get the job done. The finished result looks great. Would definitely hire them again.
Nothing is ever simple when dealing with a home that's nearly a century old. There are always oddities whenever we try to do work on our home. Dan (and Jim) came up with creative solutions to overcome some extremely difficult (and with respect to our washer dryer stack, damn near impossible) problems. For example, I needed to replace my washer & dryer stack with a new set of machines. Punch List was handling the installation since I needed other work done in the room (removing years of debris, plugging holes, etc). The problem is that the room where these machines go has a limited amount of space that is just wide enough for the machines (with the remaining space taken by the furnace and flue pipes). The difficulty is that someone has to be behind the machines to secure the connections (gas line and lint vent for the dryer) since we can't reach around the dryer to do so (due to the wall and furnace). So Dan stays there, connects the dryer, and me and Jim push the stack of machines into place while Dan climbs the pipes, hops onto the stack once it's in place, and drops down the front of the machines. It was somewhat insane. They could have just thrown up their hands and punted the problem to someone else (in this case I'd have to call Abt and have their installers come in) and I wouldn't have blamed them. Instead they found a way to get the job done. Which, in my experience, is exactly what you need when trying to get things fixed in an old home.I definitely plan on calling them again.
We just hired punchlist and Rick came out to change out a ceiling light and install a outlet to mount our TV. He was outstanding. He explained everything thoroughly and offered his expertise as to some better options and it looks fantastic. I will definitely use punch list and request Rick again for sure!.
Very professional and actually called me back. I called 2 other handymen services who never returned my phone call. Punch list called me back immediately. I needed some help painting my door frame and recaulking my master bath tub. Not sure complex jobs. They estimated 2 hours....he was able to finish in 1.5. Really great service and affordable!
Rick did a fantastic job today. I asked him to do both electrical and carpentry work and the results are first-rate!
Needed a casing installed for a closet door. I emailed some pictures, they gave an estimate, showed up, did a perfect job, and even took care of a few other small things before leaving. We couldn't be happier with the whole experience and I recommend them and will definitely be calling on them again. It's good to see a business that's got their act together.
Great work. Very responsive and organized. Did exactly what was asked and for the amount agreed upon. Couldn't have had a better experience.
Called these guys on a small job on my renters apartment, and they were on time - in fact they arrived a little early! They got right to work and were extreme efficient.Overall, I felt like I was treated well through the whole experience, and my renters were extremely pleased with their professionalism.Way to go!
We found Punch List through Yelp after searching for a handyman to handle a number of jobs around our house. The scheduling was prompt and easy, and I found them very easy to work with. Most importantly, Punch List send Rick, and Rick was great at his job. He did a great job walking me through options, time and cost for all the projects we gave him. Then immediately he ran out, picked up the needed supplies and got the work done. He really went above and beyond to ensure the work was done well. We will use Punch List again and will be requesting Rick!!
Friendly and informative over the phone with a realistic estimate on a door jamb repair. (Unlike some others I spoke with.) After initial call they followed up with confirmation of rates and to set up appointment for the following day. Serviceman Rick showed up on appointment time. Rick was friendly, professional, and honest about the repair in which he promptly carried out. The repair and experience was A+!!! Thanks guys
I have used Punch List for several types of projects. They have done drywall, painting, repairs, etc. all jobs were done very professionally and on time. Just recently moved into a new condo and needed tv mounted and heavy artwork & mirrors hung. Dan was my handyman and he was great. Very friendly and did everything I needed in a professional and timely manner. Punch List may not be the cheapest service but they are reasonable and do the job right.
This was one of the best experiences I have ever had with a contractor! The electrician, Gus, showed up early both times and checked in when he was on his way. The was professional, thorough, and identified the issue and finished the work quickly. I would highly recommend!
If I could give Punch List TEN stars, I would. From the initial consultation over the phone with Jim, I BELIEVED I was in the best of hands. Top notch electrician, Gus (Yes, REQUEST GUS) was Punctual and On Point!! (maybe there's a new acronym there... From "simple" repairs to gut-rehab and new construction projects ... This is the only company, the only PEOPLE who actually care. Seriously. No, Really!! xo
Booking an appt was easy and flexible, and Jim was very responsive and even volunteered to come back when the Comcast tech was here so that they could work on our cable-wiring problem together. In addition, Bob did a great job replacing and patching the drywall. Both Jim and Bob were very friendly and communicative - I'd highly recommend Punch List!
I had been procrastinating the replacement of some pendant lighting in my apartment but on a friend's recommendation, I contacted Punch List. I called on Tuesday and Rick was there on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, the light fixture as it was couldn't be saved so Rick talked to my landlord, explained the situation and the need and came back a few weeks later to install the fixtures I had ordered. He was fast, thorough and extremely easy to work with. I will absolutely call Punch List again for any house needs I might have!
Last week was the second time I hired Punchlist to do work around my house. As with the first time? They were punctual and communicative. I was able to schedule within a week for a long list of little nagging items that needed to be done, from hanging curtain rods to strapping heavy furniture to the walls. Both guys made suggestions that were smart and saved me time and money. They are my official handyman service from here on out.
It's hard to find a good handyman. And then when you do, there's always a limitation - they don't do plumbing or they don't have a truck big enough to get that vanity from Home Depot you want - and you have to find another handyman.Thank goodness for Punch List! They're basically a company of handymen, so whatever you need done, they have a guy for the job. I called them about the aforementioned vanity. Not only did they have a big truck, but they passed along their 5% Home Depot discount to me. Vanity and fixtures look great! Thanks, Mark! Then today, the GFI in my kitchen failed. Replacing it didn't fix the problem. While I'm handy, my knowledge of electrical outlets is limited, so I called Punch List again. Nick came out the same day (luckily he works fast, so he's often ahead of schedule), fixed the issue and installed a second GFI. Disaster averted!Things to know - they are great handymen, but they're not finish carpenters. So the vanity looks great, plumbing works, but I handled the finish work: adding quarter-round to hide the gap where the wall wasn't flush with the side of the vanity, adding a bead of silicone where the backsplash and top meet, and touching up the paint around the new work. If you have the proper expectations, you'll love Punch List!
Great place. Great people. Have had 2 different handymen come out for different fixes and they have both been great. Pleasure working with you folks.
They were very efficient over the phone in making the appointment; very easy to deal with. Bob, the contractor was fast, efficient and effective--doing a variety of repairs in about half the time I expected (caulking a tub, patching various cracks & holes). Highly recommend and would use them again.
Punch List is the best!!! Rick came right on time and was so easy to work with. He got everything done so quickly and efficiently. He even made a run out to Home Depot and helped figure out solutions for me. It is so nice to have such a reputable and well managed firm to work with. Everything from the person who called to schedule to the final result was executed well. This is the second time I hired them and they have never let me down.
I needed a faucet replaced asap. I called several places, but only Punch List answered right away. I made an appointment. They emailed me a contract that I e-signed. I was very pleased with contract, too. It had highlights of what I needed to pay attention to and the fact that it was electronic and clearly had the terms of agreement. The technician, Chris, came right on time. He was very courteous and got the job done quickly. I liked that they used a tablet for me to e-sign the receipt. After the service, the new faucet became loose after several days of swiveling, so I called back. Punch LIst called back right away and Chris came back the following day, fixed the issue and made sure the faucet was secure. It has been working flawlessly ever since.
We needed to check our old electric outlet and needed to replace it for our new dryer and washer. Rick J from Punch list came our place for quote on time, checked our issues and explained us what we need to do. Then next week, he came back to fix it. He did fixed our issues much quicker than he quoted us. Everything was perfect. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. Also he always appeared on time for work. We highly recommend to contact to Panch list when you look for handyman service.
Rick Jacoby is by far the best repair man that I have worked with in Chicago!! I am a Realtor and have to use repair services in all kinds of situations. The 1st time I met Rick, he was hired by a client of mine to put in a new electrical plug for a washer/dryer unit at their rental property. Rick was professional, on time, and explained everything. He assessed the situation and ensured that he knew the scope of the job before heading off to the hardware store for supplies. That was the best part!! He went out to purchase exactly what was needed so that I didn't have to take extra time buying supplies that could be wrong and need to be returned later. When he returned with materials in tow, he finished the job efficiently and even cleaned up the mess! My clients were extremely impressed by his work and the tenant was so pleased that the mess was all cleaned when she got home!I highly recommend Rick and have recommended him and PunchList to all of my real estate clients!
I've had issues with electricians just returning my calls, let alone finishing a job. Rick was early (but called ahead to make sure it was okay) and in and out in an hour-- including going to Home Depot and back. He has Saturday hours, which makes it so much easier as I'm a medical student and being home during the week is nearly impossible for me. I will definitely use him in the future.
I had Rick working on a couple things in my house today and he was AMAZING!-Booking an appointment is very easy -Rick was 5 minutes early and got straight to work -We had an electrical issue and needed some dry wall repairs done, both turned out great and Rick explained everything he was doing to me which is very helpful being a first time home owner -Rick was friendly, efficient, and knowledgable! Can't say enough great things about the guy! -Very affordable pricing especially considering the level of serviceDefinitely going to use Punch List again, they really care about the customer experience which I highly value. They also are very digital savvy so they are a breeze to work with and eco-friendly!Thanks for everything guys, I'll be calling you a bunch 😀 Already recommended to another friend!
This is my 2nd time working with Punchlist for handyman services.I had 5 different small projects from replacing high ceiling bulbs, tightening junction boxes, re-chalking the bathtub, fixing a broken closet door, to taking out a kitchen cabinet. I got a call to review my projects, an email to confirm the appointment, and a call the morning off to confirm approximate time of arrival. On-site, Rick J was efficient and professional and gave advice on other repairs that I could do in the future. it was well worth the effort.I would highly recommend the Punchlist team to everyone.
I called punch list because I wanted an accessory back splash installed on my stove, balcony screen doors adjusted, new weather stripping on a couple of balcony doors and a ceiling light installed. The end result was great, but I deducted a star because while I was clear that I needed both an electrician and a handyman, the company sent Chris who said he only does very basic electric and wasn't comfortable tackling the ceiling light which required that a wire be cut. This meant a 2nd visit from Rick who is actually an electrician - and absolutely awesome. The light was up quickly and he then moved on to the balcony doors. Since Rick does handyman stuff too, if they had sent Rick the first time, everything would have been done the first visit. While 4 tiny screws, awkward hole position, and no magnetic screwdriver meant it took Chris an hour to install the stove piece, it looked good in the end and he adjusted my screen doors in a jiffy so they latch on their own without my use of duct tape (yes, tacky I know but once you've chased a flying screen door during a wind storm it's all about whatever works). Both men were on time, professional and courteous. So overall a good experience and I would not hesitate to call them again if needed.
This was our first time using Punch List and it won't be our last. These guys are awesome! Our family room plaster walls were in horrible condition. Ten years ago we ripped out a built-in 1950s bookcase/entertainment center original to the house, and no matter how much we scraped and sanded, you could still see where the unit had been -- pockmarks, chunks out of the plaster, adhesive that wouldn't come off, etc. Back then, we didn't want to spend extra money to fix it so we just painted over the flaws and sat our jumbo TV in front of the worst part. Good enough! This time we wanted it done right, so enter Punch List. From start to finish, Punch List was super easy to work with. I liked being able to schedule the job via email and get a day-before-service email reminder. Jim came out to examine the walls and emailed a quote the next day. He was very knowledgeable and explained exactly what needed to be done (skim coat to repair the walls, then prime & paint).Bob handled the repair & paint job, and he did an incredible job. Jim had warned us that the walls wouldn't be "perfect," but I'll be darned if they don't look it after Bob finished. He also installed new baseboards and a ceiling fan. It hardly looks like the same room (and made me wish we'd done it correctly in the first place).Don't hesitate to call Punch List. Their rates are very reasonable and the guys are real pros. We'll be calling on them to tackle more things on our to-do list!
I manage two buildings with 13 bedrooms. It's great to have a high quality "get it right the first time" service who I can communicate with quickly and effectively via email. They have done several jobs for me at a reasonable price, every job was was executed professionally and repaired the problem permanently. I didn't have to deal with the million question contractor from Seinfeld, they just get it.
I'm absolutely blown away by the quality, timeliness, service and affordable price of Punch List electrician services.I recently got a SmartThings home automation system, and when trying to install new smart light switches, I noticed that my condo isn't wired with neutral. Knowing that installing a neutral line would be well beyond my capabilities, I reached out to Punch List. Their master electrician Gus, who was incredibly kind, came out to look at the situation. He quoted me 2-3 hours to install all 12 switches. I was blown away - how could he possibly get it done that quickly? His analysis and proposal only cost $38, and the electrical services were $109 an hour, with an hour minimum and billed by the quarter hour from there. When he returned, he brought another electrician, Javier. I was very surprised and impressed that the rate included two workers. And they worked quickly! And they took the time to show me how everything was connected, so I learned from the experience. He ran into two unforseen issues, which I definitely wouldn't have been able to address on my own, and STILL finished the job in only 2 hours and 15 minutes.Booking was all via email, which was very easy, as was paying the email-based invoices via website with a credit card.I couldn't recommend Punch List strongly enough! Thanks!
Awesome service, will definitely call them again for anything I need done.
Maybe you're like me and 34 seconds into a shower in the middle of a hell-hath-frozen-over winter turns your bathroom into a veritable rainforest. Rather than wait and see how many different varieties of mold species I could cultivate and play a game I like to call "how much moisture until the guy above me falls through the floor?," I contacted the guys at Punch List to upgrade my dinky wet-noodle bathroom exhaust fan.Setting up an appointment was as easy as apple pie. I filled out a little form online and they called me (what!? crazy, I know!). I spoke with Nick and he walked me through the whole process. He was also right on target with his ballpark estimate over the phone.Bob the Painter came in a did an awesome job for us. He was quick, courteous, and showed a real dedication to getting things right. He's also a super nice dude and talked me through what he was doing. I hope to hire these guys for future projects.
bottom line: i'm 100% impressed and can wholeheartedly recommend punchlist. quit being so stubborn about all the DIY nonsense and get some help already 🙂the long version: holy. crow. so i call myself relatively handy--at least i give most stuff a try and will google/youtube just about anything. lift up a dryer and stack it? sure...no problem. except that whole thing about not knowing how to properly hook up gas and not having the brackets to secure them. i lifted it...and then that was about it. i knew i should call in reinforcements on this one.i did an online request for help from the kind folks at Punchlist and they called me literally within minutes. booked a timeslot, described what i needed and pretty much forgot about it.received an email reminder yesterday of my appointment, and boom! Rick showed up *early* and was ready to work as soon as he came in the door. super nice guy--clearly knew what he was doing. took the bracket that i had purchased and got them properly stacked in no time. he also noticed that my gas line to the dryer didn't have the proper tape (not my fault, i never unhooked it), and fixed that as well.honestly, i booked them on a whim and based solely on yelp reviews. i didn't think much about it, but figured i'd give it a shot. i now have MULTIPLE projects that i'd like Rick to come out and help me on. i guess i didn't think it would be this straightforward or easy.it bears repeating: i'm 100% impressed and can wholeheartedly recommend them. quit being so stubborn about all the DIY nonsense and get some help already 🙂
Can't get better than Punch List!Spent 7 months dreading having to get a toilet fixed and in just under an hour it's entirely fixed and a new faucet installed to replace the leaking one!Nick was my Handyman and he was polite, explained everything clearly and had a cheerful attitude that you wish most people had while doing their jobs.I feel like a fool for not having used them before. I will never hesitate again to get any thing fixed knowing now that I can call on Punch List!
Jim from Punch List was great – on time, friendly, and knowledgeable! He didn’t charge us extra for going a little over the time slot or for getting some materials for us at Home Depot and coming back to do a few touchups. I got estimates from a few other companies on Yelp that got good reviews, but Punch List was price competitive on the hourly rate and took an hour less than the other guys said they would take to do the same work. He even gave us advice on a few things we could do ourselves even if we decided not to have him do it (e.g. some painting, cleaning the windows). Definitely recommend!
After a while spent searching for the perfect handyman, I’ve found him. Other companies wanted to charge me to buy their tools (not the SUPPLIES, which is totally reasonable, but the tools…). If I wanted to buy a fancy drill bit, I would. I don’t, though. Jim will get all my future handyman business. Here is why: – Already owns tools… like you’d think a handyman would, no? – Prompt responses on phone and email. – Clear, straightforward pricing (beware the “$X an hour + $Y for the van to come to your place + $… schemes where smaller numbers quickly add up). – On time. – Friendly! – Didn’t mind that my cat is a nosy so-and-so and was all up in his business until I locked him away in the bathroom (the cat, not Jim). – Work done well and in the projected time allotment. … and, you guys, he sent me a thank you card. Like, “thanks for letting me come out and fix that drain you effed up!” but much nicer.
It seemed as though just about everything was breaking/coming apart in our house at the same time. After searching through Yelp for a general handyman, I saw the wonderful reviews for Punch List and thought I’d give them a try. Like other reviewers have indicated, Jim and his associates are great. Brian came out the next day, and I have to say it was so refreshing to get an honest, straightforward, efficient person!! Everything that could be fixed was fixed much quicker than I had anticipated. Price is very reasonable for the city, and the quality and professionalism are above and beyond any other company I’ve used in the past. Will definitely be using Punch List in the future.
He is incredibly friendly and hard working.
