Time to Replace Those Windows?

Reasons to replace your windows

Installing new windows in your home is a big investment and it’s easy to be on the fence with the decision to make the leap. Buying new windows is a decision of both aesthetics and utility. It may be that new windows are needed to complete the look of your home or that the old ones are simply too out of date and must e replaces eventually.

If you’re considering getting new windows there are four considerations you want to factor in.

How Energy Efficient Are Your Current Windows?:  One of the most important factors to consider in the decision to replace your windows is how energy efficient your current windows are. If you’re losing boatloads of cash each winter because of escaping heat and each summer because of invading heat (all due to your drafty windows), new energy efficient windows could actually pay for themselves in a few short years.

Does Sound Abound?: Perhaps the sounds of the city (or the suburbs) bleed just a little too much into your living space. Maybe your home theater causes a little too much headache for the neighbors. Whatever the reason, windows offer sound penetration some homeowners just don’t want. If sound has been an issue in your home, you may want to get sound proof friendly windows that offer greater options for noise control in your home.

Are Your Windows Safe?: Safety is probably the chief concern when considering new windows. If they offer too easy an entry into your home or if they are floor to ceiling in a two-story home but are single hung, you may want to upgrade to double hung for the sake of safety. With children, safety comes first. And windows are very much a part of the safety agenda for your home. If they aren’t up to snuff, it may be time to make the move ad replace them.
